Egypt is enjoying a very important geographical location in the middle east, particularly our main ports are overlooking all mediterranean seaports, a national container shipping line should have been established, to at least serve our fresh produce exports. With only 3 container ships, small size, each around 1000 to 1200 TEU, we will be able to cover a big volume of exports to Italy, which is considered a major importer of Egyptian fresh produce. Italian Peninsula has many important ports on the Western, southern, and Eastern side. A vessel may depart From Alexandria Sea port, or from any Egyptian port in the North, to Salerno, average of 2 days transit, then proceed either to Napoli, or go straight to la Spezia, then head further to North to Genoa. As such, this vessel will have covered main ports on the Western side of Italy. While it is worth mentioning that another important port on the North Eastern side of Italy, that is Trieste Port, which cover the North of Italy as well, and which is located just around 10 NM from Koper, one of the important sea ports in Slovenia, where many many shipments are land-transported from there to many European countries. A further plan for the same vessel is that it may Sail to other major ports in south France such as Fos or Marseille , being important 2 French ports on the Mediterranean, while a further sailing to the west, it can reach any of the major southern ports in Spain. This voyage may take some 4 to 5 days to cover Western ports of Italy, plus another 2 to 3 days for both France and Spain. This starting from Egypt calling on major Italian, French, and Spanish ports may last for total of 6 days, maximum 7. The outbound voyages will take loads from Egypt to these ports, and take loads to Egypt on the way back. In addition, it can deliver loads between all these ports whether fresh or general cargo. I am with the view that says same vessel, may, according to work plans, can call on any of Morocco ports, Algeria ports, Tunisia ports, and Libya, on the way back to Egypt or the voyage may be ended after completing callings to French ports, or Spanish ports, then the North Africa shipments may be handled with a separate vessel. The black sea ports are also important: Novorossiysk is a very important port in Russia overlooking the black sea. A vessel may start from Egypt straight to that important port, fully loaded with citrus, in season of both Navel and Valencia, in addition to many other fresh produce. This voyage may take around 4 days, same vessel may call on either Odessa, when circumstances permit for container, or Constanta in Romania, and Varna, Bergas; in Bulgaria as I see really there is a need to enhance trade with these countries through operating a vessel to serve any of her two ports. According to work volume, the vessel may call on Poti in Georgia to deliver any fresh produce from Egypt, and to other landlocked countries like Armenia and Azerbaijan, and from there also they may land-transport some goods to both Turkminstan, Uzbekistan after sailing through Caspian sea, if a network of roads will be available between these important countries. Only 2 x 1200TEU vessel may handle all these operations, a 3rd one will cover West and North Europe.
